The Bolaven Plateau Coffee Producers Cooperative (CPC) was established in 2007 and operates in the highlands of southern Laos. Initially partnering with CAFEMA and Malongo, Swiss and French coffee buyers respectively, and later supported by Cooperative Coffees as their North American importer, CPC aimed to improve market access for local small-scale producers, historically reliant on low-paying local traders.
Equipped with state-of-the-art processing units funded by the French Agency for Development, CPC ensures impeccable coffee quality. Each village washing station features machinery for cherry pulping and efficient washing and drying of parchment, meticulously labeled with details like weight, village origin, and drying specifics before storage at the dry mill. For the 2015-2016 season, CPC targets an impressive production of 50 containers of Arabica and 8 containers of Robusta.
Driven by a commitment to quality improvement, CPC eagerly seeks to expand into the United States and Canada markets. The cooperative's dedicated team, supported by Fair Trade Premium funds, is constructing a modern clinic and doctor's residence in Plateau Bolaven, scheduled for completion in early 2016. Additionally, CPC is launching a tourism program, inviting visitors to stay at a charming lodge, participate in cherry-picking, tour washing stations, and engage with local farmers. This initiative not only strengthens relationships with buyers but also educates the public on Laos' vibrant coffee culture.
